IN MEMORY OF PORTIA...

Carol bought Portia 20 years ago with the idea of teaching her a job – selling her to a forever owner. 3 times she was sold. The first time the buyer backed out and the second and third time the finances fell apart. The message was clear, Portia was meant to stay as a SDEC horse.

Portia, or “Copper Dream” as she was known in horse shows, was by far the most popular horse to ride in a horse show for many, many years.  She had a loving, gentle and sweet personality, and for over 20 years, Portia was loved at Spring Down by all who came in contact with her.

Portia had many issues and difficulties with her front legs, and had been nerved on that right front leg a couple of times.  Over this last year, Portia sustained a severe tendon injury in her right front leg, and despite the most advanced veterinary treatments, it just continued to get worse.  Portia’s quality of life was not good, and we could not continue to let her be in pain from that tendon injury.  Portia was 25 years old, and she had lived a wonderful and fulfilling life.

Portia joined the rest of the Spring Down angels in heaven on Friday, October 15th.  May she run in green pastures for ever.
