Folger Estate Stable Project

The Folger Stable project fundraiser at Spring Down ended on Sunday, September 2, 2007 during our Anniversary Party at the barn. We are proud to announce we were able to add $27,000 to the concerted efforts of the Folger Friends and donated all monies to restore the Folger Stable through months of fundraising from silent auction, raffle to weekly root beer floats.

Congratulations to all our friends, family and community businesses that donated and purchased some wonderful items. We couldn't have done it without you!

Dear Family and Friends of Spring Down,

Folger EstateMy lifelong love and passion for the magnificent horse came about as a little girl. I was bitten hard by the bug which never seemed to fade after I met my first horse at summer camp in Walnut Creek as a seven year old. Horses changed my life and I knew they would be in my life forever. As I walk (or should I say ride?) down the path of life, I now want to somehow give something back in return for the wonderful gift I’ve been given. Horses have provided a sense of security in a world often overwhelmed with life’s problems-that lifelong bond between human and animal. More and more we find the ‘country’ atmosphere slowly fading from our rural environs. Each time a stable or barn facility is closed to the public, we have lost something near and dear to our hearts and the opportunity for our children and grandchildren to experience the pleasures we have had with our horses and related activities.

Don't miss out on the Folger Raffle to be held Sunday, September 2, 2007. Learn more...

I’m writing this letter to you with the hope that you will support Stan and me in our efforts to raise funds for this project to restore the historic Folger Estate Stable. Our goal is to raise enough to make a $20,000 donation. The Friends of Huddart and Wunderlich Parks Committee have a vision for the stable’s future and plan to begin the restoration project by October 1, 2007. Once restored, ‘the Friends’ will manage the stable’s educational and recreational programs, host events, continue the tradition of horse boarding, and help the County maintain the buildings in exemplary condition. Loss of this community stable could also result in the loss of miles of the most shady, beautiful trails open to horses where no bikes are currently allowed.

We are asking for one donation from each friend to offer at our silent auction kicking off in August. The final bidding will conclude on the evening of the Spring Down Anniversary Party on Sunday, September 2nd. Donation ideas are endless: retail items or services, unique experiences/activities (dinner parties, personal tours/hikes/rides); personal services (cooking/baking, babysitting, teaching skills/art), tickets (Bay Area athletics, performing arts, music); wine from your cellar, use of your vacation home. Every donation counts! Contact Lisa Bailey at 408-309-5028 for creative ideas or if you would like to help in organizing the event.

We welcome your ideas and suggestions to help us make our collective goal a reality! Thank you for being a great customer and supporter of Spring Down Equestrian Center.

Download the donation form if you would like to make a contribution of an auction item or monetary gift in your name to the Folger Stable. For planning purposes, please send your form to Chairperson Lisa Bailey by one of the methods outlined below by August 31st.

Sincerely Yours,

Stan and Carol Goodstein
