Mommy & Me Horsemanship Series

A class designed to introduce the smallest member of your family (ages 2½ years and up) to spend some quality time with mom (or dad) on and around horses. As a group, you'll be introduced to safety, ground manners and get comfortable around horses. We'll teach you all about their special equipment, help you groom and tack up your own horse and ride!

Classes for 2008:

  • Session I: Tuesday, February 26, March 4, March 11
  • Session II: Monday, April 7, April 21, April 28
  • Session III: Friday, April 11, April 25, May 2
  • Session IV: Monday, May 5, May 12, May 19
  • Session V: Tuesday, May 27, June 3, June 10

Time: 11:30-1:00
NOTE: People who sign up through their Park and Rec departments need to inquire through Park and Rec regarding timing. The Redwood City/San Carlos Park and Rec's Mommy and Me time is 10:00-11:30.

The series consist of 3 lessons which last 1.5 hours in length.

Lesson 1: Stable tour, Introduction to your assigned horse, Safety, Grooming, Vaulting Horse practice, ½ hour riding session, Crayons and Horse booklet to color

Lesson 2: Vaulting horse Practice, Groom and Tack up, ½ hour riding session, Memory Book Craft to make

Lesson 3: Groom and Tack up, ½ hour riding session to include games on horseback, Make & Take Home Craft

*Vaulting horse practice enables the instructor to have the rider 'sit' on the horse, balance and practice 'holding' reins and introducing them to good posture. It will also help in allowing the small child to feel (for the first time) like they are riding without the horse moving under them while you are talking to them and allowing them to get comfortable, hold reins and find their balance.
